TBI in the Military

The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC) reports nearly 350,000 diagnoses of TBI in the U.S. military since 2000 (NCBI, 2017). While not all brain injuries are sustained in the line of duty or during enlistment, it is critical our service members have access to all levels of support, either through the VA system or through the civilian systems. The Brain Injury Alliance of Washington is dedicated to assisting our state’s veterans obtain assistance, support, and advocacy. We can assist in areas of concussions, blast injuries, PTSD, access to support groups, navigating care, and much more.
Benefits of Advocacy

As international Certified Brain Injury Specialists, our Resource Managers are dedicated to helping those we serve achieve their goals. This includes but is not limited to: creating a stronger healthcare network, advocating for specialized tests and treatment, creating community pathways, attending doctor’s appointments, employment assistance, providing family and peer education, locating service animals or assistive technologies, navigating social service networks, assisting with housing, obtaining a quality of life, and much more. Having an advocate creates channels of communication and works to promote effective, support networks.
