DSHS has drastically and unexpectedly cut funding for services to those with Brain Injury in Washington State.

  • Cut essential brain injury services by 50%.

  • Slashed available state funds to a mere $325,000.

  • Defunded specialized services in knowledge, skills, and experience for brain injury survivors.

  • Cut off ALL funding and severed relations with the longest standing Brain Injury community program in Washington state,
    BIAWA, with no explanation.

We need to Amend RCW 74.31 - Traumatic Brain Injuries language to restore and increase funding for BIAWA’s specialized services, experience, knowledge, and skills that brain injury survivors and their community need now!

Since 2012 the "Tommy Manning Act" AKA “RCW 74.31” and WA state has paid BIAWA $1.3M+ annually to provide free specialized brain injury focused services to the community - all of these services have been eliminated.

Subject: STOP DSHS FROM CUTTING TBI FUNDING

    Dear Senator/Representative,

I am emailing (calling) you today to advocate for providing services via the TBI Council for Traumatic Brain Injury. I support the Brain Injury Alliance of Washington. DSHS has slashed the budget for services from $831,600 in fiscal 2022 to a total of $325,000 in fiscal 2023. This is DEVASTATING news and I need you to TAKE ACTION to stop this and support the vulnerable population that the TBI Council is supposed to help.

BIAWA provides critical services to our community and a reduction in funding at this level would be devastating to our community affected by brain injury. If allowed to proceed, this would further eliminate services to the vulnerable estimated at 2% of the population by the CDC.

Please contact the TBI Council and DSHS today to stop this reduction in services from happening and add the funding that is AVAILABLE that they are not utilizing. DO NOT CUT SERVICES TO THE VULNERABLE WHEN THERE IS AVAILABLE BUDGET! WE SHOULD BE ADDING SERVICES.
