The Brain Injury Alliance of Washington (BIAWA) Academic Scholarship Program is currently closed for the 2018-2019 school year. Please check-in early spring 2019 for instructions on how to apply.

Our vision is a world where Brain Injury is prevented and every person already affected by its impact benefits from resources to maximize their quality of life. Our three annual academic scholarships are one way BIAWA strives to actualize that vision.


BIAWA Scholarships

Western Washington Undergraduate Scholarship
Award Amount: Up to $1000
The Western Washington Undergraduate Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student(s) to further their undergraduate education.

Eastern Washington Undergraduate Scholarship
Award Amount: Up to $1000
The Eastern Washington Undergraduate Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student(s) to further their undergraduate education.

Higher Education/Professional Scholarship
Award Amount: Up to $1000
Awarded to a professional or student in post-secondary education, who is committed to advancing Brain Injury knowledge in Washington State to further their graduate education.

Please Note: This is a one-time scholarship. Recipient will not receive multiple awards. Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of funds available and applicant eligibility. BIAWA will not discriminate regardless of ability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or religion. Recipients are selected through an application process. Recipients may only use the scholarships to attend an accredited vocational, technical school, college or university. All scholarships are paid to the institution on behalf of the student and are paid in full for the fall quarter. BIAWA reserves the right to distribute scholarship awards between multiple eligible applicants.

    Applicants to the Western and Eastern Washington Undergraduate Scholarship must:

    • Live in Washington State.
    • Be survivors of Brain Injury. Verification can be in the form of medical records or a vouching from the BIAWA staff, board members, or support group facilitator.
    • Be seniors in high school ready for graduation in the year the scholarship will be awarded or already enrolled in an undergraduate program.
    • Be enrolled full or part time for the academic year of award: award will be prorated if part time.

    All applicants to the Higher Education/Professional Scholarship must

    • Be students in post-secondary education, enrolled full time, who are committed to advances in Brain Injury knowledge.

      • Verification of brain injury for applicants to the Western and Eastern Washington Undergraduate Scholarship
      • Verification of Brain Injury as area of educational interest for Higher Education/Professional Scholarship
      • Proof of acceptance/enrollment
      • Applicant’s most recent academic transcript
      • One letter of recommendation from a colleague, educator or supervisor

    • Applicants must submit a completed application with all requested attachments postmarked no later than June 30th, 2018 for consideration for the 2018-2019 academic year.
      • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

    Award Notifications
    Award notifications will be sent within 60 days of June 30, 2018. Please note: due to the volume of applications only scholarship recipients will be notified.
