Veterans' Services
Introduction
Veterans who have experienced a traumatic brain injury are entitled to certain services through the Veterans' Administration. These include:
• Inpatient rehabilitation for
acute injuries (with a Rancho Scale of 6 or higher)
• Outpatient discipline-specific services including occupational
therapy, physical therapy, speech pathology, social work, vocational
rehabilitation, orthotics/prosthetics, and cognitive prosthetics
• Access to Defense and Veterans' Brain Injury Centers (located in
Palo Alto, California; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Richmond, Virginia;
and Tampa, Florida.)
• Outpatient physiatrist services
• Patient advocacy within the Veterans' Administration system
• Caregiver support group
• Transportation for eligible veterans
• Coordination with mental health and chemical dependency programs
• Respite relief
• Options for living arrangements ranging from in-home to long term
care, adult family homes and assisted living

Description: Inpatient and outpatient services are provided to meet the medical,
surgical, and psychiatric needs of eligible veterans. Other services include
access to Defense and Veterans Brain Injury
Centers, provision of durable medical equipment, support groups, respite,
personal care, and chore services, adult family home placement, and supportive
housing options. Supplemental services include coordination with mental health
and chemical dependency programs. This program is based on the Program of
All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) care model.
